This depends on your perspective. The cost of the procedure must be weighed against the cost of being obese. For each person this is different. For some, it's the cost of multiple hospital and doctor's visits, expensive medications, and other monetary measurements. For others, the cost is measured by society, their friends, and their loved ones.

Losing dangerous excess weight with the LAP-BAND® System can significantly improve your health. It can even reduce or eliminate health conditions associated with obesity. The LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System can help you control your hunger - so you lose weight. It can help you look and feel better. It can actually help you change your life.

Yet, despite the benefits of losing weight, some people worry about the cost of LAP-BAND® System surgery. What most people don't realize is just how much it costs to be obese. Between the costs of medication, doctor visits, groceries, and weight loss program fees, morbid obesity can cost more than $18,000 a year.

ITEMS Estimated Annual Costs

  • Mean medical/drug costs (BMI=35) $7,337
  • Out-of-pocket healthcare expenses $2,684
  • Employment inactivity costs $1,017
  • Commercial weight-loss program fees $678
  • Prescription co-pays (5 meds at $10) $738
  • Grocery and dining costs $6,012
  • TOTAL $18,466

Depends on your insurance.

Each Insurance Company is different. Contact your insurance carrier to find out how much your deductible will be for the operation. Otherwise, routine office visits fees apply.

If you have decided to not file your claim with your insurance or plan to finance the operation through a private financing company these are the expected fees:

Initial Consultation: $100.

This fee includes the initial workup, processing the paperwork, and scheduling the surgery. If you decide to go forward after the consultation, we will credit the initial fee towards the cost of the operation.

Cost of Procedure: $13,500

This fee includes the anesthesia, the same day hospital admission fee, all hospital fees*, the surgeons fees, and adjustments to the band for 1 year.

*This may increase if you have a complication or if you have multiple medical problems warranting an overnight admission.

Stringfellow Memorial Hospital

This is the hospital we have contracted with to the majority of our surgical procedures. Their support is the primary reason we are able to do this procedure with a high level of quality at a very reasonable cost.
